Maison & Jardin, France – A GENIUS OF TROMPE L’OEIL.
A Genius of Trompe L’oeil.
Without any doubt, an artist once understood and applied our century´s technique of Trompel´oeil, one of the most difficult techniques like the contemporary artist Rainer Maria Latzke, who knows all about the art of the renaissance. He is a veritable magician; able to transform ordinary rooms in a dream decoration. From 1986 until 1989 he transformed the Chateau Thal in Kettenis into a palace of 1001 nights, without destroying the original charm of the estate, but stuffed with the State-of-Art techniques of our times. Princess Scheherazade could live in the Moorish room, where arabesques sink into the blue of the night. A hidden door covers a television as well as a bar… One has to see the idyllic landscapes surrounding the pool which lets you forget time. Or the view on an idealized Italian paysage, which are framed by marbled columns in the master bathroom. Or in the library, where a mural shows the Chateau in 1750, when Casanova slept here and Mozart, accompanied by his father Leopold entertained the audience. Today Chateau Thal offers 35 rooms restored by Rainer Maria Latzke. But the artist´s skills are not limited by painting murals; he also creates the complete room with a unique harmony in the spirit of Renaissance October 1998
