Frescography

In the 90´s Rainer Maria Latzke started to implement new technologies such as digital image processing in his work. This led to the invention of the Frescography and the Computer Aided Mural (CAM) Software program for which he received a patent in 2000. The word Frescography derives from the Italian fresco for wall paintings and the Greek graphein for reproduction. Similar to the invention of Lithography which opened masterpieces of picture art to a wider public, the Frescography does the same in the field of mural.

The Frescography technique combines the advantage of digital large size printing process with the requirements of an on-site created mural which respects the architectural properties of the site such a doors, windows, beams or niches. Using a special process the brushstrokes and the various levels of paint are three dimensionally modelled. As such, after the installation they cannot be distinguished from a locally hand-painted mural.
