Paintings & Other Works
From a very young age Rainer Maria Latzke engaged himself in the artistic activities of drawing and painting. He grew up in a household with a distinctively creative focus that facilitated the artistic development of the children. His paintings are a broad sweep of the many different styles of art; classic together with bizarre, narrative next to fantasy. RML says of himself: „I find it difficult to decide what it is about art that i like the most. For me, art is like a huge treasure chest where, by rummaging though, I discover endless new and exciting things. And the last thing I find is always the most exciting – at least until the next discovery…“
Oil Paintings
Pictures from the Province
As Latzke noted after completing his art studies that he probably did not could survive with his paintings in the modern art scene , he hired as an art teacher at St. Mary’s School, a girls’ school in Euskirchen. There he made after he had given the students their tasks, a calendar with pictures of local landmarks to which an Euskirchen gallery owner had commissioned him. Then he wrote on the cover “Pictures from the province” and delivered the drawings. Unfortunately the result was not what the gallery owner had expected for its rural customers and therefore the calendar remained unpublished .

Student drawings
These drawings made Latzke as a student of Emil Fischer School in Euskirchen, a provincial town near Cologne in the Rhineland. Many of them originated in math or other unpopular lessons …
Chess Game
A decade before “Jurassic Park” brought back interest in dinosaurs to a public audience; Latzke created a chess game with dinosaurs as figures and a three-dimensional game board in the form of a prehistoric landscape.
